Despite having the distinction of being the second largest city in Sri Lanka after Colombo, Kandy doesn’t have too much of a nightlife. It is a relatively quiet and peaceful town.
The main night club is called Le Garage, and it rocks on the weekends from Le Kandyan Hotel. It is some distance from the main part of town and you need to hire a taxi or a tuk-tuk to get there. Located on the road to Perediniya, the music is good and on weekends the crowd is lively. Not too much happening on week nights, though.
Old Trinitians Sports Club (OTSC)
The OTSC or Old Trinitians Sports Club is a good place to head on the weekends. On Fridays and Saturdays there’s music and dancing from 20:00 onwards. It is a members-only club, but for a nominal fee you can enter as a guest. There’s also a pool table, and they do have a dress code, so don’t go in your flip flops and shorts!
The Pub is located a jump away from Queen’s Hotel in central Kandy. It sits above a shop called The Bake House. One of the two pubs in the city, it has decent food, along with two good bars. The one downstairs has a big screen TV and is very popular during sports season, especially if the Sri Lankan national team is playing cricket.
